Article Abstract:

It is widely accepted by international investors that unrevealed environmental liabilities can be costly, both financially and in terms of reputation. Those planning to invest in companies with an international presence must ensure that they employ a competent environmental consultant with a global perspective who can advise on local regulations and explain potential liabilities. In some cases, an investor may wish to omit polluted sites from any deal.
