Grenfell grabs glory with drugs, bikes and gambling

Morgan Grenfell Private Equity won the private equity provider of the year award in the Acquisitions Monthly Awards 2000. In total, it invested more than $1 billion in 1999, and demonstrated true pan-European coverage across several sectors. Key mandates included the $2.9 billion purchase of Ciba Specialty Chemicals in Switzerland and the $751 million purchase of Piaggio Motorcycles in Italy. It purchased Vianova, the synthetic resins division of Hoechst, for $460 million in 1998, and sold the business in late 1999 to Solutia for $640 million.

Deutsche Morgan Grenfell Acquisition Finance (DMG) has expanded its team to to offer clients new products and a whole range of services, such as underwriting mezzanine and subordinated loans. DMG is able to arrange complex buyout deals often involving several million pounds sterling worth of debt. DMG has organised more than $4 billion worth of senior debt during 1994-97. It arranged eight transactions in 1996-early 1997. DMG have recruited a number of expert personnel to help in their plans to further expand their operations into Europe.

Morgan Grenfell Development Capital

Article Abstract:

Morgan Grenfell Development Capital (MGDC) has 675 million pounds sterling of managed funds in 1997 after closing its initial 145 million pounds sterling fund in May 1990. The company has operations in Singapore, Hong Kong, Italy, France and the UK, and is considering opening further offices in mainland Europe. The Skr436 million buyout of abrasives producer Slip Naxos of Sweden was led by MGDC, with MGDC appreciating the importance of understanding new markets.
