Publicity for planning applications

Article Abstract:

The UK government requires all local planning authorities to give adequate publicity to the planning applications received. Many authorities do write to those likely to be affected by a development and invite them to share their views. Plans are often available for interested parties to view during office hours at the local planning office, but this may be inconvenient. An alternative is to make them available in other public places, but then there is no guidance or explanation from planning officials.

Planning, the market and private housebuilding

Article Abstract:

Some critics think that planning controls have a great effect both on numbers of houses built and the prices of houses in the area. Research has shown that new housing being built in one area influences the national as well as the local market. Prices may not be affected, and allowing more housing development will not necessarily reduce prices.
