RIBA leaders in disarray over response to Warne Report on registration
Article Abstract:
The council of the Royal Inststute of British Architects voted 45 to 10 in favour of a motion condemning the government's decision to implement the recommendation of the Warne Report that the title 'architect' should be deregistered. However there was vociferous debate with prominent members divided on the issue. Many predicted a lowering of standards, unfair competition and damage to the education system if the government's plans are implemented. Others argued the Warne Report presents new opportunities.
