S-92 ground tests
Article Abstract:
Sikorsky started ground running tests of its S-92 prototype in West Palm Beach, FL, test facility on Sep. 3, 1998. The company, which is eyeing an S-92 first flight before 1998 ends, has also conducted whirl tests on the rig at Stratford, CT, in the last week of August 1998. Meanwhile, wind tunnel tests of the engine intakes were wrapped up at the NASA Lewis facility in Cleveland, OH. The wind tunnel tests of the engine intakes developed by Dunlop Aviation confirmed the effectiveness of the heated anti-icing system across 20 test points of temperature, airspeed and water content.

Minicopter revival?
Article Abstract:
Intora-Firebird, based in the UK, is reviving the Minicopter, which was refined in Switzerland by Liteco during the 1980s as the ATLAS (Advanced Technology Light Airborne System). The Minicopter, which originated in the US during the 1950s, were displayed at the recent Farnborough Air Show in three variants. These are the two-seat cabin prototype from Switzerland, a 100 kg (220 lb) single-seat tubular-steel frame ultralight, and an unmanned air vehicle (UAV). The company has also secured rights to develop and market the basic design.
