The human face of globalisation

Article Abstract:

World Trade Organization (WTO) head, Mike Moore, was appointed trade minister in New Zealand in 1984 and opened markets competition from abroad. He shares his term at the World Trade Organization with Supachai Panichpaki, and is the first of the two men appointed to take on the job. His duties include overseeing negotiations covering a range of activities such as services and agriculture, from Nov 1999. He also has to enhance the legitimacy of the WTO, which has been criticized for being unaccountable, secretive and fostering the interests of big business. His early experiences in the labor movement should help him in this role.
