The ground-war scenario
Article Abstract:
The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) would face logistical problems entering Kosovo, Yugoslavia, through Albania, due to poor road communications. Other countries are less keen on being used as launch pads. The pace of destruction of Serb military equipment is not easy to calculate. NATO is gradually increasing its forces, and this may be in preparation for a peacekeeping operation rather than to mount a ground war. Winter can start in Oct, so the moment for mounting a ground war may already have passed.

Messy war, messy peace
Article Abstract:
The conflict in Kosovo, Yugoslavia, was intended to prevent ethnic cleansing, which has instead been intensified, with Kosovo Albanians killed or driven away from their homes. Slobodan Milosevic can claim partial victory since some conditions of the Rambouillet agreement have been dropped. The North Atlantic Treaty Organization was right to seek to prevent ethnic cleansing, but this could not be done from the air. The peace will be difficult partly because of the way that the war was fought.
