CVS offers health services
Article Abstract:
CVS Corp. and Pfizer Inc. have joined to offer health services through CVS' drugstore pharmacies in the Philadelphia area. The services range from blood pressure checks and cholesterol screenings to programs for chronic illness management. CVS is attempting to recover some of the revenue lost by reduced prescription drug reimbursement by managed care companies. Local health insurers and physicians express reservations about the new services citing redundancy of services and conflict of interest between Pfizer, a drug company. CVS says its new services are meant to enhance current insurer programs and physicians services.

Rebuild planned at Parkside bleak spot
Article Abstract:
West Philadelphia Empowerment Zone plans to develop a $15 million shopping center in Philadelphia, PA's Parkside neighborhood in 1999. The planned shopping center on 52d Street, between Merion and Jefferson Streets to 51st Street, would be anchored by a major supermarket. Under the tentative plans, the shopping center would have at least four other retail outlets, a 10,000-sq-ft training/community center and a day-care center. According to City Councilman Michael Nutter, the project is slated to be completed as early as summer 1999.

Article Abstract:
The secret to North Philadelphia's Messinger Bearings Corp.'s 85 year run is its custom bearings that other companies won't tackle. The company, which had declared bankruptcy in the 1970's, made its way back by fulfilling orders like the 1,000 pound bearing it made for NASA to use in wind tunnel experiments.
