Tucson firm adds life to wooden power poles

Loadmaster Systems Inc. signed an agreement with the Electric Power Research Institute of Palo Alto, allowing Loadstar to make and market a groundline repair system. The system is used to restore wooden power transmission poles. The company will repair poles for utility companies or sell them the necessary equipment.

Ugly: Tucson car rental firm turns beautiful profits

Ugly Duckling has solved problems unique to the used car rental business. The owner, Thomas Duck, started his own insurance brokerage to cover franchisees' liability. He also developed a depreciation system that allows franchises to finance car purchases. Ugly Duckling now has $65 million in sales and 550 franchises.
