Don't downsize the compassion

A federal bankruptcy judge in Virginia has imposed 21 percent pay cuts on most of US Airways' 25,000 unionized employees, following the Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection filed by the airlines on September 12, 2004. Management experts feel that companies with good employee relationships have the best chance of managing workers in a crisis, and thereby preventing the harm caused to the air travelers.

USF to reopen Red Star Philadelphia terminal
Article Abstract:
USF Corp., the Chicago trucking company that shut down its unionized USF Red Star Inc. division and put 2,000 people out to work, will reopen eight Red Star terminals including one in Philadelphia. The new operation will be run through another USF division, USF Holland Inc., and will give hiring preference to former Red Star workers, the International Brotherhood of Teamsters.
