Heap of trouble hits scrap metal business
Article Abstract:
The buying frenzy in the scrap metal business has grounded to a halt due to plunging scrap prices and other crisis. Philip Services, Metal Management and Recycling Industries, three major scrap metal processors engaged in a buying spree a year ago, are currently grappling with their own problems, including declining share prices. Philip, the biggest scrap metal firm in North America, is making an attempt to find a buyer during a time when scrap prices are at five-year declines. Chicago, IL-based Metal Management and Englewood, CO-based Republic Industries have abandoned plans for future acquisitions due to depressed conditions of the scrap metal business.
