US Airways meeting uneventful
Article Abstract:
US Airways' annual meeting in Washington state was uneventful, lacking the noise created by pilots in 1997 who showed up in a show of solidarity over contract dispute with the company. This is because the airline has embarked on a series of initiatives in the past 12 months that helped it improved its profitability. The company, which reported record profits of over $1 billion in 1997, eyes to finalize a deal soon to acquire either Airbus 330 or Boeing 767 wide-body aircraft. Another plan is the establishment of a new alliance with estranged European partner British Airways.

IAM workers at US Airways bury contract with 'no' vote
Article Abstract:
US Airways employees have rejected the five-year labor contract negotiated between the company and representatives of the International Association of Machinists (AIM) under the prod of federal mediation. Over four-fifth of the US Airways employees, which include baggage handlers, ramp workers and other fleet-service employees, voted against the contract and voted to authorize a strike by a three-to-one margin. Negotiators representing the union said the proposed contract calls for most members to receive a 4% lump-sum bonus and a pay increase of 9.23% within six months.

Ouster shocked AHERF's top lawyer
Article Abstract:
A former official of the Allegheny Health Education and Research Foundation (AHERF) says she was surprised over her dismissal, the organization's fall and creditors' insistence on the repayment of an $87-million loan, which quickened the organization's bankruptcy. Former general counsel and executive vice president Nancy A. Wynstra says she expected to be in the firm until sometime in 1999. A top official says AHERF will be benefited by a restructured legal department that uses the skills of both internal and external attorneys.
