Hospital workers strike; Temple furloughs 140
Article Abstract:
Officials of Temple University Health Systems stated that they have no intentions of closing the troubled Episcopal Hospital, but announced that they would furlough 140 union and nonunion employees at the facility. The announcement came a few hours after unionized nurses and technicians, members of the Health Professionals and Allied Employees, began a two-day strike. Union officials called the furlough a diversionary tactic by Temple that had no bearing on the real issue of how Temple plans to maintain and support Episcopal as a high-quality health care facility.
