Grove City will expand with acres of furniture

Home Company-Fine Furniture Direct plans to open 10 stores in the next five years at Prime Retail Inc.'s 533,000-sq-ft Grove City Factory Shops, the furniture village in Grove City, PA. Baltimore, MD-based Prime Retail could add up to 200,000 sq ft of new home furniture stores to its Grove City furniture village, allowing the firm to pose a challenge to North Carolina's standing as the site to secure the best furniture deals. Home Co. will be the 65,000-sq-ft anchor tenant of Grove City Factory Shops, offering custom and bargain brand-name furnitures as well as interior decorating advice. The first Home Co. shop will open in May 1999 on Prime Retail's outlet mall in San Marcos, TX, while the second shop will open in fall of 1999 in Grove City's furniture village.

PPG steps into color-shifting auto paints

PPG Industries' automotive refinishing division has been marketing Harlequin Color Collection, a new line of auto paint that uses a special pigment created by Flex Products, since November 1998. The new line, represents the first custom-made paint made by the division in its laboratory in Strongsville, OH, and is targeted to custom car and truck market. Flex Products' pigment contains microscopic flakes of an ultrathin, multilayer film to create a natural look of soap bubble. Consumers have also started using the 12-color shifting finishes on snowboards, bikes and watercraft.

Ardex floors its fans at gambling capital with colored concrete

Ardex Inc.'s colored concrete has been used as floorings at several casinos in Nevada. Retailers such as Abercrombie & Fitch, Pottery Barn and The Gap are busy purchasing Ardex's colored concrete to develop their own signature floors. Ardex's manager for national accounts, Jesse David, stated the company, which needs more space than its current 30,000-sq-ft plant, is looking into the possibility of putting up a new plant to be able to concentrate more on its core products, including its original thin concrete.
