LTV, workers win $50 million from IRS suit
Article Abstract:
LTV Corp. and roughly 100,000 retired LTV workers are in line to get around $50 million in award money after winning a tax lawsuit against the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). Cleveland, OH-based LTV, which previously ran a steel plant in Hazelwood, PA, filed a suit against the IRS to get back Social Security and unemployment taxes subtracted from supplemental pension checks given by the firm to its retired hourly and salaried employees between 1987 and 1993. The award money included roughly $25 million in tax refunds and over $25 million in interest. The IRS is entitled to appeal the decision handed down by the United States Court of Federal Claims.

SFX to buy promoter DiCesare-Engler
Article Abstract:
SFX Entertainment of New York, will acquire concert promoter DiCesare-Engler Productions of Pittsburgh, PA. The acquisition is part of the company's efforts to buy out local promoters across the US and become the dominant company in the concert business. Although DiCesare-Engler will continue to use its name, the acquisition by SFX would divide the partnership between Rich Engler and Pat DiCesare. DiCesare-Engler will operate almost as an independent unit, but report directly to the parent company.
