Hotels may eke out a victory this weekend after all

Philadelphia hotels and city promoters said that even though Philadelphia, PA hotels were going to be hurt by the cancellation of the NBA All-Star Game, it looks like they will benefit after all, from advertising weekend packages using the slogan "Love Is More Than a Game." Last month the hotels and the Greater Philadelphia Tourism Marketing Corp. began using the slogan to promote Philadelphia's attractions. By yesterday, some hotels that lowered their prices and offered free breakfast had sold out the majority of their rooms for one or two nights, said hoteliers and tourism officials. The tourism agency invested roughly $50,000 advertising the packages in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, and New York newspapers.

A study found that leisure travel in Philadelphia has increased since the mid-1990s, as compared with tourism nationwide. The emphasis on the variety of things to do and see in the region as promotional efforts, worked to generate interest.
