Judge stops United deal with pilots

A federal bankruptcy judge threw out a disputed five-year contract between United Airlines and its pilots on 7 January 2005, dealing the bankrupt carrier a significant blow in the efforts to lock the lower labor cost without the courts order. The planned pilots contract was opposed by the flights attendants and machinists union joined by the federal governments pension agency and a committee of united unsecured creditors.

World's second-largest builder back in the back in the black

Stuart Graham, chief executive officer of Skanska AB, the world's largest builder, is returning the Swedish company to an annual profit after cutting more than 2,700 jobs and selling assets worth 7.6 billion kronor, that is $1.1 billion. Graham sold assets, cut costs, and made the giant Swedish firm profitable again.

Airport contractors donated to Street

Twenty seven construction companies held signed contracts with the airline's parent company, US Airways Group Inc., out of which 18 contributed to Street's 2000 and 2004 mayoral election efforts. Contractors were invited to bid by either USA Airways or Turner Construction Co.
