Zippo Manufacturing Co., based in Bradford, PA, is coming out with a new campaign aimed at focusing its products' appeal to college students. The campaign, created by Ketchum, picked up anti-smoking trends in the US. In addition to ads on youth-oriented magazines such as Maxim and Details, a non-smoking Zippo message will be posted on World Wide Web sites, which are known to attract young people. The campaign will also feature a new tag line, "Zippo. Use it to start something." There will also be television ads that carry such scenes as candle-lit beaches and a birthday.

Heinz pours it on

Heinz Co., manufacturer of ketchups, other condiments and sauces, has hired Leo Burnett Co., a NY-based advertising company to provide brand positioning and global advertising. Heinz officials stated that they are going to spend $50 million for their new advertising campaign and this marks the first time the company has hired a single advertising agency to handle the promotion of its entire product line. Debbie Foster, director of corporate communications for Heinz, stated that the new campaign will focus on their ketchup because its their biggest brand.

Ad agency picked to polish region's brand

Dymun-Nelson & Co., a Pittsburgh, PA-based advertising agency, has been awarded with the contract to help the Pittsburgh Regional Alliance, a group composed of six area economic development agencies, to polish the image of southwestern Pennsylvania. Dymun-Nelson was chosen by the organization among a group of five bidders. The contract calls for the advertising agency to come up with a message aimed at attracting businesses and skilled workers to the region. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
