The Bureau of Labor Statistics paints a picture of the Philadelphia region's job structure, which shows that the region ended with 15,500 more jobs in the year 2003 than it had started with. The Philadelphia region never saw the kind of growth in jobs where it was shown that every two out of three new jobs created here were in education or health services.

The Labor Department expects total employment in the United States to rise more than 21 million by 2010 and with the normal job turnover it is expected to top 56 million. More low-wage service jobs are expected the end 2010 but the jobs for professionals will grow even faster.
