OSHA penalties follow death of worker
Article Abstract:
Moltrup Steel Products has agreed to pay penalties of $200,000 and enhance safety and health conditions at two facilities in a deal with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. The deal settles 41 safety and 12 health violations issued by the agency after the death of 25-year-old employee Matthew Huzyak on February 14, 1998. Moltrup will work with the United Steelworkers union and hire an outside consultant to prepare safety programs, train employees and conduct routine inspections. The settlement also calls for the company to conduct monthly safety meetings and put $100,000 into a training fund over four years.

Article Abstract:
Eighty-Four Mining Co.'s 425 miners will be laid off as a result of the merger of its parent Rochester & Pittsburgh Coal Co. (R&P) to Consol Coal Group. R&P and Consol merged on Sep. 23, 1998, to create the country's largest underground coal company.
