Usinor wants rest of J&L Specialty Steel
Article Abstract:
Usinor revealed that it plans to buy out subsidiary Pittsburg, PA-based J&L Specialty Steel for $103.7 million. The French steelmaker already owns 53% of J&L Specialty, but it wants to buy the remaining 18 million shares it does not own in J&L Specialty to leverage its own steelmaking business. Although the offer will still need the approval of J&L Specialty's board, Usinor expects to close the deal by end of 1998. According to J&L spokesman Jim Leonard, the buyout will not bring any major changes in the over 1,300-employee firm.
