50 food firms plan online purchases

A new online purchasing exchange for 50 food manufacturers, including Campbell Soup Co., Hershey Foods Corp. and Rohm and Haas Co.'s Morton Salt, has been announced by the Grocery Manufacturers of America. The online site will allow shared online purchasing from domestic and international suppliers.

'Unacceptable' earnings spur Campbell to refocus

Camden-based Campbell Soup Co. has reported that its fiscal third quarter earnings declined by 14% from the 1999 quarter to $139 million. Campbell, which also reported that its sales declined by 7% in the same period, is led by president and chief executive officer, David Johnson.
