Small hardware store sees service as key to viability

Philadelphia, PA-based Yaskin Induserve Supply new owner Scott Foster believes that providing quality service to customers will help the business compete with mega-retailers such as The Home Depot and specialty chains such as Restoration Hardware. Foster, who acquired the store from the Yaskin family in May 1998, is running the seven-employee business along with longtime store manager Bob Billbrough. To ensure service to clients, Foster is also computerizing inventory and preparing for electronic ordering. Yaskin will expand its sales floor to make room for more of the esoteric items that are difficult to find elsewhere.
