Sony set to fill jobs at TV plant

Sony Corp. has announced it will hire 400 people to work for its television manufacturing center in Westmoreland County, PA, in 1998. Sony said its conduct job fairs at its complex near Mount Pleasant, approximately 35 miles east of Pittsburgh, PA, to recruit those workers. Job fairs will be conducted every Saturday of June 1998, starting June 6, 1998, from 10 am to 4 pm. Approximately 300 of the 400 workers that Sony will hire will be technicians and manufacturing workers while the remaining 100 positions will be offered to professionals with background in engineering, accounting and other financial interests.

Pennsylvania Transformer Technology Inc. president and owner Ravi Rahangdale sees promise for the Canonsburg, PA-based transformer manufacturer as the deregulation of the power industry creates demand for interstate electricity. Rahangdale believes transformers will be in great demand by utilities who want to sell electricity beyond their territories. The company operates two plants, one in Canonsburg and the other in Raeford, NC. Growth has been slow, but steady, with the order book for 1998 already full, said Rahangdale.

Sony veteran gets top job

American Video Glass Co. has appointed Fusao "Fred" Ishii as its new president effective July 1, 1998. Ishii, 50, who has been with Sony Corp. since 1970, will replace Donald R. Dicken, who was responsible for the startup of American Video Glass in 1997. Dicken is set to remain as an adviser to the firm until Sept. 30, 1998 before he retires. American Video Glass, which manufactures television glass components for Sony Corp., has recently allocated approximately $500 million to develop its television complex.
