'Stealth tax' yielding cash and complaints
Article Abstract:
The alternative minimum tax (AMT) approved by the Congress in 1974 is catching not only the wealthy but also an increasing number of unsuspecting middle-class families, leading some to call it the 'stealth tax'. An estimated two million Americans paid the alternative minimum tax in 2003, and the number is expected to increase to more than three million in 2004.
