The apple of travelers' eyes; a local firm is one of the nation's largest combiners of air-and-hotel vacation packages

Article Abstract:

Apple Vacations (Newton Square, PA) is projecting 1999 revenues of $850 million, making it one of the largest travel wholesalers in the US. Apple, founded by John J. Mullen in 1969, specializes in combined air-and-hotel vacation packages. The firm says it sends more travelers to Mexico and to the Bahamas than anyone else in the world. Apple charters airplanes to offer its own flights from 12 US cities, and during some weeks in the winter it boards more passengers than many scheduled airlines do. Nineteen thousand travel agencies offer Apple packages.
