EIS: friend or foe?

Article Abstract:

Executive information systems (EIS) provide top managers with direct access to essential corporate information. Information should be presented in a simple and concise manner that does not require extensive technical knowledge. EIS systems should include strategic information on: production variances; marketing trends; and external competitors. In addition, successful EIS systems should: provide information in whatever form is needed; integrate information from several different sources; and include information from every aspect of the business.

Mini memory banks

Article Abstract:

Flash, or 'solid state,' storage may gradually offer a viable alternative to the conventional hard disk storage format. Flash devices use solid-state microchips with no moving parts. They are extremely small and flat, and use around a tenth of the power of a normal spinning drive. Flash storage also has the advantage of being non-volatile, ensuring that data cannot be lost. The main disadvantage with Flash storage is cost, with Flash devices costing almost $10 a megabyte in their smallest forms for personal electronics.
