Asians in the States

Article Abstract:

The fastest growing minority in the United States is the Asian Americans, numbering 3.6 million in 1985 but expected to increase by 58 percent to 5.9 million by 1990. Target marketing specialists are beginning to take note of the marketing potential for this group. Asian Americans have above average incomes, send a large percentage of their children to college, and have a median household income of $22,700. Marketing to this group may prove difficult because it is made up of peoples of different language groups, cultures, and dialects. Because of these differences, advertising in English works best for broadcast ads, and advertising in an Asian language is better for print ads. Companies advertising in New York City's The China Daily News are being observed by advertisers in other areas with Asian populations to see how the ads are working. 10

Dana Corp. v. United States: evolution or devolution of the origin of the claim?

Article Abstract:

The Court of Federal Claims in 1997's Dana Corp. v. United States interpreted the origin of the claim doctrine in a way which may provide a great range of planning opportunities. The court allowed a corporation to currently deduct legal fees paid according to a retainer specifying the purpose of the services but where the services were additionally utilized for another purpose. Use of retainer fees for capital items may be completely deductible if retainer contracts include various uses and the case remains viable.
