Canceling DD(X) destroyer would inflate CVN 21 carrier cost

Article Abstract:

The canceling of the next-generation DD(X) destroyer might increase the costs of the future CVN 21 aircraft carrier, which the members of the Congress are already complaining it to be very expensive. The CVN 21 program was planning to acquire the new technology developed for the DD(X) free of cost and killing the DD(X) program means that the cost of developing those systems will also be added to CVN 21.

President Bush's nominee for Secretary of the Navy has assured lawmakers that the Quadrennial Defense Review (QDR) would be used to determine what size its fleet should be, and then use the outcome of that assessment to offer commensurate plan to build ships accordingly. Further, it proposes funding one next-generation DD(X) destroyer annually from fiscal 2007 through 2011.
