Halifax in the dog house early

Article Abstract:

Halifax has changed its status and is no longer a building society, and not long after this change there have been complaints about customer service. Not all members have received stock allocation forms though they were entitled to free stocks when the Halifx floated, and other members have not received free stock allocations. Halifax has also restructured savings accounts and an effective withdrawal penalty has been introduced for the Bonus Gold Account.

Abbey safe as houses

Article Abstract:

Abbey National has seen its share price improve slightly since a low of 381p in Sep 1994, and is managing to improve its margins despite very fierce competition in the mortgage market. It has been able to derive maximum benefit from interest rate rises in order to boost margins, and some analysts believe that it will continue to increase its share of the mortgage market.

When is a bonus not a bonus?

Article Abstract:

Many UK banks and building societies offer investors bonus rates for opening new accounts, but these bonuses are sometimes not as generous as it seems. Confusing wording can mean that bonus rates are not guaranteed for their full term.
