Panama's former canal chief jumps in the deep end

Article Abstract:

Before taking up the post of Panama's new minister of economy and finance, as sub-administrator of the Panama Canal Authority Ricaurte Vasquez Moral created a 2025 master plan that modernizes the trans-oceanic route in enhancing Panama's economy. Under the new administration, Ricaurte Vasquez Moral sees a major issue in persuading Panama's legislative branch to temporarily suspend the Latin nation's fiscal responsibility law because the deficit of the non-financial public sector increased to 5% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), which is to be maintained at 2% of the GDP under Panama's fiscal responsibility law. The country's fiscal stance is going to be reflected in 2005 budget.
