Private-client manager falls victim to day-trading aspirations

Article Abstract:

Many fund managers are concerned about high valuations for internet stocks and are avoiding them where possible, though unit trusts specialising in technology have to continue to buy as they receive money. Private-client fund managers may lose clients who move into day trading, and priavte clients may also fall victim to the end of the boom in internet stocks. The Bank of England and regulators probably do not know whether private investors are funding speculation by borrowing heavily. There is also little that regulators can do to influence the market, except to give warnings of the risks involved.
