Remains in light: Hiro Yamagata's art for a new Afghanistan

Article Abstract:

Hiro Yamagata's laser-based project to reimage two destroyed 5th century A.D. Greco-Buddhist statues and design a permanent installation in the sandstone cliffs of Bamiyan, Afghanistan, is a modern design solution, also acknowledging the realities of the Muslims living there. His concept is to use the latest in laser physics to project 240 images of the figures, rendered in constantly shifting neon colors, since light is seen as holy across cultures.
