Beyond surveys: using focus groups to evaluate university career services
Article Abstract:
Student surveys need to be carried out to see what they think of career services and then clear objectives drawn up. These could include analysing first impressions, gathering ideas for future services and offering outreach services. Staff need to be trained to act as facilitators for the focus groups if an independent one cannot be obtained. Their main role is to listen to comments and remain neutral. After the group has finished, facilitators should write down and summarise what is on audio tape and analysed which suggestions are useful and practical and which are not.

Fighting against the sexual harassment of interns
Article Abstract:
An approach to help fight onthe-job training sexual harassment is presented based on the University of California at Santa Barbara's program for its interns. The program focuses on both the intern employers and students. Employers are informed about the university's sexual harassment policy and the students are taught how to effectively assert themselves and negotiate their way out of such a situation.
