Career counseling the experienced client
Article Abstract:
Career counseling for experienced clients is very similar to counseling college students and graduates. On the other hand, there are severaldifferences crucial to counseling experienced clients. Older clients often do not know what they really want, although they can easily identify what they want. Career counselors can help older clients identify what exactly they want in a job by helping clients identify work content and transferable skills and, eventually, all possible options and the most desirable job. Suggestions on howto resolve the issues of pay, resumes and interviews are also discussed.

It's a hard, hard, hard, hard, hard, hard world
Article Abstract:
A three-phase longitudinal studybegun in 1988 identifies students' career expectations six to eight months prior to graduation and compares these with work experiences about six and 12 months after beginning work. Survey results show that several expectations are not met in terms of salary, hours, feedback and tenure. Several beginning workers thus experience frustration and disappointment and their work concepts change. Professionals and employers can help students develop more realistic expectations about job searching and early work experiences through workshops and career counseling.
