Making diversity a reality within our profession
Article Abstract:
The Diversity Task Force was formed by the Board of Governors of the College Placement Council Inc (CPC) to recommend ways to make the association more diversified. Two CPC regional associations, the Midwest College Placement Assn (MCPA) and the SCPA, shared with the Task Force their experiences in integrating diversity in the management of their respective groups. Ways by which the MCPA and SCPA integrate diversity in the management of their respective associations are given. Strategies on how to start making organizations more responsive to diversity are also presented.

Enhancing diversity recruiting
Article Abstract:
A number of firms have implemented programs to ensure that they recruit a diverse workforce. One example is U S West Inc's American Indian Leadership Initiative. The program aims to recruit American Indian employees by establishing ties with Indian tribal colleges and supporting the American Indian College Fund. Another is AMP Incorporated which sends out recruiting teams to universities with large minority populations. The National Assn of Colleges and Employers' guidelines for effective diversity recruiting programs are described.

The diversity necessity
Article Abstract:
Educational institutions are offering programs that enable students to meet the demands of diversity in society. The College of St Catherine in St Paul, MN, for example, has the South East Asian Academic Enhancement Program, which inspires Hispanics and young Asian women to aim for higher education. Furthermore, the school undertakes the Community Service Careers project that involves students in multicultural civic activities for different communities.
