Workplace education: a survey of employers on experiential education programs
Article Abstract:
Experiential education programs are a good way of finding out if college students have the skills and attitude to work effectively. NACE sent a survey to 1,717 employers and 25% replied. The results showed that cooperative education programs were run by 212 employers, 320 have internships and 190 offer summer jobs. Over four-fifths take students from the same schools each year. Over one third of employers said they target minority students but only 17.7% target women and 7% target the disabled. Salaries vary from $5.15 per hour to $24 per hour on the cooperative program and up to $28.32 for interns.

Tying career and community services together
Article Abstract:
The Kellogg Community College created a community-based job support group (JSG) program to respond to the needs of members of the community who were not college-affiliated. The JSG program involved school career services personnel, local library personnel and staff and members of a local economic development group who served job seekers from both private and public organizations of various career levels. Services were in the form of support and encouragement through sessions that developed morale and motivation, provided structure to the job search and offered emotional and social support.
