Coated ice nanocrystals from water-adsorbate vapor mixtures: formation of ether-CO2 clathrate hydrate nanocrystals at 120 K

Article Abstract:

The formation of ether-CO2 clathrate hydrate nanocrystals at 120 K was investigated to determine the mechanisms of the coating of ice nanocrystals from water-adsorbate vapor solutions. The unique surface area of ice nanocrystals allows their rapid conversion to hydrates in the presence of strong hydrogen bonding adsorbates such as methanol, acids, ammonia and small ethers. Experimental results showed that transport of a reactant to the ice-hydrate interface at low temperatures can be significantly facilitated for relatively nonvolatile substances by growing the ice nanocrystals in such a manner that they are formed with a coat of the adsorbate.

Superionic and superconducting nanohybrids with heterostructure, Ag(sub x)I(sub w)Bi(sub 2)Sr(sub 2)Ca(sub n-1)Cu(sub n)O(sub y)(0.76 <_ x <- 1.17, n = 1,2, and 3)

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to develop novel mixed conducting nanohybrids, Ag(sub x)I(sub w)Bi(sub 2)Sr(sub 2)Ca(sub n-1)Cu(sub n)O(sub y)(0.76 <_ x <- 1.17, n = 1,2, and 3), based on the intercalation of the superionic conducting Ag-I layer into the superconducting Bi2Sr2Ca(sub n-1)Cu(sub n)O(sub y) lattice. Experimental results showed that the CuO2 and BiO layers were slightly oxidized during intercalation resulting from the charge transfer between host and guest.

Nature of intercalator amiloride-nucelobase stacking. An empirical potential and ab initio electron correlation study

Article Abstract:

It has been possible to use a rigid-body systematic search approach with stacked complexes of the novel AT-specific intercalator, amiloride, with each of the four DNA bases and two Watson-Crick base pairs. This work supports the application of the systematic search technique to larger model systems.
