Dynamic fluctuations and spatial inhomogeneities in poly(N-isopropylacrylamide)/clay nanocomposite hydrogels studied by dynamic light scattering
Article Abstract:
The nonergodic method proposed by Pusey and van Megen was applied for the contributions of the dynamic fluctuations and the frozen-in inhomogeneties to the total light scattering intensity observed in poly(N-isopropylacrylamide)/clay nanocomposite hydrogels that were analyzed. The fluctuating component consists of two contributions, one due to polymer chains and the other, smaller one representing the residual mobility of clay particles and the scattering intensity of fluctuating component was smaller than that of a pure clay suspension.

Dynamic light scattering study of gelatin-surfactant interactions
Article Abstract:
Research was conducted to examine gelatin interactions with cationic and nonionic surfactant. The binding of anionic sulfate, cationic and nonionic surfactants to gelatin chains in aqueous buffer medium was investigated using dynamic light-scattering technique at T = 30 degrees C. Results demonstrate that both cationic and anionic surfactants bind specifically to appropriate polar groups of gelatin molecule altering the effective size of the biopolymer.

Reversible stiffening transition in [beta]-hairpin hydrogels induced by ion complexation
Article Abstract:
The article explains the reversible stiffening transition taking place in [beta]-hairpin hydrogels, which is often induced by the complexation of ions. The transition is found to lead to an increase in the storage modulus of the hydrogel.
