From surface self-assembly to crystallization: Prediction of protein crystallization conditions

Article Abstract:

A new criterion based on surface and volume diffusion kinetics was established to predict protein crystallization. A crystallization coefficient is found to provide an effective and reliable criterion to predict protein crystallization conditions and the competition between volume transport and surface integration determines whether crystallization or amorphous aggregation would be the kinetically favorable process.

alpha-Synuclein structures probed by 5-fluorotryptophan fluorescence and [.sup.1.19]F NMR spectroscopy

Article Abstract:

An unnatural amino acid, 5-fluorotryptophan (5FW) and 19F NMR spectroscopy was used to explore alpha-synuclein structures. Three proteins were characterized at positions 4, 39, and 94 and it was found that all three indole side chains were exposed to the aqueous medium and virtually identical single-exponential excited state decays were observed in all three cases.

Solid-state [super 31]P NMR spectroscopy of precipitated guanine nucleotide-binding protein Ras in complexes with its effector molecules Raf kinase and RalGDS

Article Abstract:

The application of solid-state [super 31]P NMR spectroscopy to precipitated guanine nucleotide-binding protein Ras in complexes, with its effector molecules Raf kinase and RalGDS, is described. It is observed that the crystal structure deviate from the equilibrium solution structure at least in the environment of the [alpha]-phosphate group.
