GERMANY: "SYNCHRONOUS PRODUCTION" AT LEVER
Article Abstract:
With investments of DM 100mn, German Hamburg-based Lever GmbH has modernised the factory in Mannheim into the most modern European washing-powder factory. By improving material handling, the Unilever subsidiary is expecting to save DM 4mn per year. According to a concept of synchronous production, production and packaging are synchronised and orders processed quickly and flexibly. The spray tower was replaced by the so-called non-tower-route method. This reduced energy consumption by 80% and water consumption by 200 l per tonne of washing powder. Material loss could be reduced by 30%.
