GREECE/POLAND: NEW LINDE PLANTS FOR LIQUID GASES
Article Abstract:
German Linde AG Werksgruppe Technische Gase of Hollriegelskreuth put on stream two new air separation plants for the production of liquefied gases in Greek Mandra and Polish Warsaw. The DM 20mn plant in Mandra has a daily capacity of 100 tons of liquefied gases such as oxygen, nitrogen and argon. In addition to hospitals, it is a supplier to the fish-breeding and food industries. The DM 42mn air separation plant in Warsaw has a daily capacity of 400 tons of oxygen, nitrogen and argon. The Warsaw-based steel company Huta Lucchini Warszawa Sp.zo.o. is the main customer of the new plant. Furthermore, Linde Gaz Polska, which is the leading Polish company for industrial gases, supplies the northern Polish market with gases from the Warsaw factory.

POLAND/SLOVAKIA: NEW UNITS FOR GERMAN FIRMS
Article Abstract:
Two German chemicals companies, Bayer of Leverkusen and Wacker-Chemie GmbH of Munich, have set up new units in Warsaw. Wacker set up the sales company Wacker-Chemie Spzoo and Bayer a sales and administration centre in the Polish capital. In the last three years Bayer has doubled its turnover in Poland. A study by ING Barings forecasts Poland's pharmaceutical consumption to reach DM 3.2bn in 1999, up from DM 2.9bn in 1998. In Slovakia, Bayer has set up a holding company in Bratislava. Bayer Spol.s.r.o., with 20 staff, is responsible for all of the group's divisions of chemicals, agriculture and health. In 1998 Bayer generated a turnover of DM 34mn in Slovakia.

GERMANY: SIEMENS USES ARGON FOR INERTING

The energy generation unit (KWU) of German Siemens has patented a method for the inerting of hydrogen-cooled generators with argon instead of carbon dioxide. The new method saves energy and is environmentally friendly.
