Grazing-incidence x-ray diffraction study of octadecanoic acid monolayers
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to characterize the x-ray scattering profiles from monolayers of octadecanoic acid. The horizontal distribution of the diffracted x-rays were obtained by scanning a Soller collimator and their vertical distribution. Results indicated that the rich phase properties associated with amphiphiles also correlated with octadecanoic acid. In addition, the Overbeck-Mobius phase occurs in the high-temperature, high-pressure area of the liquid-condensed region.

Coherent vibrational quantum beats as a probe of Langmuir-Blodgett monolayers
Article Abstract:
The frequency-domain sum frequency generation (SFG) spectroscopy and the time-domain SFG-free induction decay technique are combined for characterization of more complex molecular surfaces under ambient conditions. Relative amplitudes change and additional transitions emerge at lower surface pressure indicating changes in molecular orientation and onset of disorder.
