Influence of spectral diffusion on the line shapes of single CdSe nanocrystallite quantum dots
Article Abstract:
The role of spectral diffusion on the emission line shapes of single CdSe nanocrystallite quantum dots (QDs) have been studied by direct observation of spectral shifts on a 0.1 sec time scale. The spectral shifts are described in terms of Stark shifts due to changing local electric fields produced by the movement of charge carriers around individual QDs. It is found that the single line dot shapes result from the rapid spectral shift of the emission spectrum and not from the intrinsic properties of the QDs.

Ion exchange in ultrathin films
Article Abstract:
Ion exchange processes are used for a number of applications. A study was conducted to show that the application of ultrathin films in ion exchange experiments allows for rapid equilibration such that even large, hydrophobic ions are rapidly transported through the exchanger. The sensitivity of the technique even allows ion exchange on a submonolayer scale to be succeeded with good time resolution. Experimental methodology and results are discussed.
