Influence of the substrate on order and image contrast for physisorbed, self-assembled molecular monolayers: STM studies of functionalized hydrocarbons on graphite and MoS2

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to analyze the effects of different substrates on monolayer ordering and molecular image contrast associated with singly and doubly substituted long-chain hydrocarbons using scanning tunneling microscopy (STM). Results indicated an interplay between geometric/topological and electronic coupling factors in the STM tunneling mechanism. Findings also showed that most of the molecules supported self-assembly in two dimensions to generate similar patterns in topographs.

Methanethiol adsorption on defective MoS2(0001)surfaces

Article Abstract:

A study investigated the adsorption of methanethiol on air-cleaved and ion-bombarded MoS2(0001) surfaces to elucidate the role of surface defects on hydrodesulfurization reaction pathways on MoS2-based catalyst surfaces. Results of the study suggest that the two key surface intermediates for methanethiol hydrodesulfurization are methanethiolate and thioformaldehyde. Experimental methodology, materials, findings and conclusions are presented.

Templated deposition of MoS2 nanotubes using single source precursor and studies of their optical limiting properties

Article Abstract:

A templated deposition from a single source precursor based on tetrakismolybdate (IV) is used for the fabrication of bulk quantities of molybdenum disulfide (MOS2) porous nanotubes (NTS). The size effect of the NTS on optical transmission proves that they show good optical limiting behavior with higher nanosecond laser pulses.
