Novel method to prepare morphologically rich polymeric surfaces for biomedical applications via phase separation and arrest of microgel particles
Article Abstract:
The formation of tissue culture surfaces of controlled surface roughness and morphology by phase separation and arrest of microgel particles at the surface is described. The size of the pores, the thickness of the ridges and the number of layers of morphology are related to the microgel particle size and can be controlled to a high degree and this represents a versatile and adaptable route to complex morphologically rich surfaces for use in a range of biological applications.

Relation of the number of cross-links and mechanical properties of multi-walled carbon nanotube films formed by a dehydration condensation reaction
Article Abstract:
A method to prepare multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) films, cross-linked though ester bonds, by a condensation reaction in the presence of 1, 3-dicyclohexylcarbodiimide (DCC) is presented. The structure is verified by Fourier transform-infrared spectroscopy and the tensile strength and Vickers hardness of condensed-MWCNT films were found to be more than those with free-standing MWCNT films without ester bonds.

Flashing carbon on cold surfaces
Article Abstract:
The formation of carbon particles on cold surfaces takes place when rare-gas solids containing trapped carbon vapor molecules are sublimed. This formation process is accompanied by violent effects such as flashes of light emission and splashing of luminous fragments. The recorded optical emission spectrum shows a continuum attributable to a blackbody radiation of ~2500 K.
