Structural and electronic properties of sol-gel titanium oxides studied by X-ray absorption spectroscopy
Article Abstract:
Research was conducted to examine the structural and electronic properties of sol-gel titanium oxides using X-ray absorption spectroscopy. The preparation of xerogels was performed by hydrolysis of titanium isopropoxide followed by peptization with HNO3 while size control was obtained through calcination in air at various temperatures. Results reveal that the smallest particles contain Ti in distorted coordination with contracted ti-O bonds and probably reduced coordination number.

Isolated Se6 rings in the voids of a weakly interacting, electroneural, and crystalline SiO2 matrix: combined experimental and theoretical study
Article Abstract:
A selenium species was successfully trapped in the voids of an electroneural SiO2 modification, specifically, in the porosil decadodecasil 3R. The observed spectral bands that were assigned exclusively to Se6 rings with D3d symmetry were the product of Raman spectroscopy in combination with theoretical ab initio calculations at the SCF and MP2 levels of theory. The results showed that the crystalline electroneural host acts similar to a noble gas matrix at low temperatures.
