Surface-induced dissociation of small carbon cluster negative ions (Cn,n = 5-12): correlation between the dissociation patterns and stability of fragment ion-neutral pairs
Article Abstract:
Small carbon cluster negative ions (Cn,n=5-12) have been found to exhibit variable surface-induced dissociation (SID) behaviors between odd and even ions, particularly at collision energies of 2-6 eV/atom. Under such conditions, clusters with one to six carbon atoms, tend to lose fragment ions. However, at higher collision energies, smaller even cluster ions predominate the mass spectra, as dissociation and electron detachment become more intense.
