Synthesis and electrochemical characterization of uniformly-dispersed high loading Pt nanopoarticles on sonochemically-treated carbon nanotubes

Article Abstract:

A sonochemical process is developed to treat carbon nanotubes in nitric and sulfuric acids to create surface functional groups for metal nanoparticle deposition. Carbon nanotubes treated in the sonochemical process are shown to lead to the deposition of uniformly dispersed high loading Pt nanoparticles, which is not achieved with carbon nanotubes treated in reflux processes.

Directed synthesis of metal-catalyzed carbon nanofibers and graphite encapsulated metal nanoparticles

Article Abstract:

An attempt was made to discern whether the metal catalyst preparation could be separated from the nanotube or nanofiber inception and growth process in the aerosol phase. Chlorine is expected to change the gas-phase chemistry but not the crystalline structure of the catalyst particle.

Effect of iron catalyst on the synthesis of fullerenes and carbon nanotubes in induction plasma

Article Abstract:

The continuous synthesis of fullerenes and carbon nanotubes in induction plasmas at the 40-kW plate power level is studied. Kinetics calculations were conducted to predict the conditions for fullerenes formation at the high plasma temperatures.
