Theoretical approach
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to analyze factors affecting the spectral dependencies of the quantum yield of photochemical processes on the surfaces of the nano- and microparticulates of wide-band-gap metal-oxide photocatalysts. Cases of the spectral dependence of the quantum yields under various kinds of photoexcitation of the photocatalysts were examined. Results indicated that the spectral selectivity of photocatalysts correlated with different probabilities that electrons and holes reach the photocatalylst surface.

Is the band gap of pristine Ti[O.sub.2] narrowed by anion-and cation-doping of titanium dioxide in second-generation photocatalysts?
Article Abstract:
The visible-light activation of Ti[O.sub.2] specimens implicates defects associated with oxygen vacancies that give rise to color centers displaying these absorption bands and not to a narrowing of the original gap band of Ti[O.sub.2] through mixing of dopant and oxygen states. But there is a need for additional studies into band gap narrowing and suitable crystals must be grown for X-ray structural determinations to ascertain the actual positions of the dopant atoms.

Visible light absorption by various titanium dioxide specimens
Article Abstract:
Study is conducted to examine a set of heat-induced and photoinduced absorption spectra of various compositions of Degussa P25 Ti[O.sub.2] and different polymers are investigated. The visible light activation of Ti[O.sub.2] specimens has implicated defects associated with oxygen vacancies that give rise to color centers exhibiting these absorption bands and not to a narrowing of the original band gap of Ti[O.sub.2] through mixing of dopant and oxygen states.
